Turner Studio’s recently completed Landing project embodies the ground from which it stands. Landing is part of the greater Sanctuary precinct developed by Sekisui House and it certainly represents being ‘One with Nature’.
One of Turner Studio’s key observations of the site was the duality between industrial scarring and the remnants of natural beauty, framed by the sweeping Parramatta River and surrounding wetland reserves.
Turner Studio was captivated by the natural clay colours of the site – a beautiful scar of an industrial past. Thus, it felt only natural to embody not just the colours, but the materiality itself. With the help of Tonality Natural Facades, facade products made from high quality Westerwald clay mated with Tonality system efficiency, Turner Studio was able to make this happen and make it happen within budget.

The product has many of the benefits of a natural material; it’s sustainable, durable, maintenance free, enhanced with a high-performance surface allowing the façade tiles to resist stain, soiling and even a chemical attack from graffiti. Tonality’s facades tile system offers various layout options, they come in many different colours as well as panel shapes and sizes. In the case of Turner’s Landing project, the terracotta façade panels themselves were used as a key design tool and were adopted in a portrait layout. The choice of red and sand as the colours were defined by a vibrant depiction of the natural condition.
